cbd oil dropper on table

If you're unsure about CBD, you are not alone. It’s an incredibly confusing category to understand and shop in, so we’re here to bring things back to basics with a little CBD 101.

If this is your first time taking CBD oil, or you have tried it before and you weren’t sure you knew what you were doing, this step-by-step guide on how to take CBD oil will make entering this new and wonderful world simple for you.

How much and how often should I take CBD?

The “perfect” amount will be different for everyone - it all depends on how efficiently your body maintains its internal balance. Understandably, this can make things confusing if you’re just starting out in the world of CBD.

Our studies have found that you need to be taking over 40mg of CBD daily (for 3-4 days) for the full benefits to kick in. With this in mind, we suggest an optimum daily intake of 40-60mg. Guidance from the UK’s Food Standard Agency recommends a maximum daily intake of 70mg in food or drinks.

However, don’t worry - you can’t overdose on CBD. Your body will flush out any excess CBD naturally.

Be Consistent

It’s best to take CBD as part of a daily routine, so that it is always available in your system.  This is because CBD can assist any part of the day, from supporting focus in the morning to helping you relax and unwind before bed.

We recommend taking CBD at regular times throughout the day depending on the desired benefit you are looking for.

Read The Instructions

There are a staggering number of CBD oil products available, and they all have their own dosages and unique administering requirements, so you have to know the specific details of the product you purchased.

Oil Tinctures

Tinctures are a very well-known and understood method for consuming CBD. They are popular due to their convenience and effectiveness. Designed to be taken under the tongue, the CBD can be quickly absorbed, making them a fast-acting support in times of need. Shake well before use. Release the dropper under your tongue and hold for 30 seconds.

Drinks, Gummies and Edibles

Edibles are an enjoyable way to consume CBD due to the flavours and ingredients CBD is combined with. Edibles can come in many different forms and strengths from micro-dosing mints, gummies, Seltzers, Cocktail Bitters and chocolates. CBD drinks and edibles often contain other beneficial ingredients that complement the effects of CBD.

Topical CBD Oil

When used topically in skincare, CBD has powerful benefits. Responding differently depending on your individual skin needs, CBD is an incredibly versatile ingredient. It supports healthy skin rejuvenation and sebum production, revitalising and rebalancing both oily and dry skin alike. CBD is also an antioxidant and protects skin from the damage of free radicals. Topical products are a great option for those who are nervous about ingesting CBD and can be a lovely addition to a self-care routine.

Keep a Journal

If that sounded a bit complicated, this next step will help. Your journal can do two things:

  • Help you determine how much your CBD oil is benefiting you
  • Serve as a record of your dose increases.

Ideally, you would start your journal just before taking CBD oil so you have a record of how you were feeling before you used any. But, you can start as soon as you become aware of the benefits of a journal.

Know what to look for before you start

Paying attention to your body today will help you gauge where you’ll stand tomorrow. It could help to take CBD as you’re winding down each day, just so you’re able to observe how your body is responding. Changes can be small and difficult to notice, especially at first — taking notes can help you identify a difference over time.
